Learn to play the game

My apologies guys for the week post yesterday. I promise a lot of adventure has gone on. And for that I will break things into 2 posts. One regarding last night and another about my adventure to little India today. First though, here are some pictures I just received from our 7 For All Mankind fashion show.

Last night I mentioned to you that I would be going out for the first time in Singapore. For many of my female friends this would include a ritual of 3 hours doing hair, makeup and picking clothes (I think you know who you are J). For me, much easier. Shower, put on jeans and t-shirt, head out.  Clemens and I met up at the MRT station, and hung out for a bit on the Clarke Quay (pronounce like key) Bridge, before finding the bar and meeting up with Rafa. The bridge is an interesting place; many people just hang out there and drink wine or beer they bought at the local 7-11. Clemens mentioned that some people even set up whole picnics and hang out all night there.

I don’t think I teased Rafa on it yet, but he was late. An easy half hour later than I expected. Apparently that sort of thing is common with a lot of people in Asia, so it’s just something I have to learn about.

We met with our promoter and were escorted into the bar and towards a table in the corner. There was little section set aside for models.  Drinks were provided by bottle service and there were easily 10-15 models at the bar. I recognized one of them, but most I had never seen/met before. Some were very rude and territorial. I had one guy get up in my face saying it’s his table, I didn’t back down. Eventually the guy caved when he realized that the promoter had brought me there. The first bar was small, packed and incredibly loud. I met a few friends through Rafa but for the most part wasn’t entertained. After an hour or 2 we left for another one.

Departure from the noisy small bar sent us en route to a different bar. This one was much larger, equally packed and by my standards even more noisy.  We walked through the main bar, through a courtyard, up a long staircase and entered another bar. It felt very VIP, kind of cool.

We hung out at the bar for probably an hour and bumped into some beautiful Swedish girls that Clemens had met at university. A few short chats and then we were whisked away to a table. It was rather good timing for a table. I was getting tired of being on my feet and it was closing in on 2 am. At the table, we had bottle service again and had a close-knit group of 6 maybe 8 of us. The attitude was much more positive than at the previous establishment. I just sat back at the booth and took in the atmosphere. People watching is one of the things I enjoy doing and I kept busy watching all the interesting things go on. Girls chasing guys literally, lots of people had bottle service, weird girls above the DJ booth with massive clown wigs on (sorry I couldn’t get a picture), bouncers interacting with their flashlights (I really tried to figure out what the flashlight code meant), and of course the general bar shenanigans you always see.

It was about 5:30 when we finally left the bar. Music was still going, and people were still dancing.  I was incredibly tired, it was a good thing I had that nap earlier. With a little time to kill, we stopped by McDonalds, the guys had breakfast, I had an orange juice and then we headed our way to the MRT, which starts running at 6 am.

After a long night out on the town, I was in my bed ready to sleep until 1 pm. When my next adventure starts.
