Happy Birthday from the Land of Far Far Away.

As I had mentioned previously, I have been fighting off a cold for most of the week. Thursday, it was mostly resolved (call it 80% to normal). This was planned to be a fun filled busy day, and that it was. Why? Birthday time. I just turned 107.

I did pop out briefly on Wednesday night to half celebrate (I went home shortly after midnight). It was nice to be around friends (lots of Canadians), for when the clock struck 12.

Thursday started with a trip to Sentosa Resort world, the home of Hard Rock CafĂ© and Universal Studios. Yippee! I was incredibly excited to be going here. I have been blessed in my life with tons of opportunities, but had yet to experience a theme park and experience the park I did.

A smile reminiscent of a 5 year old seeing, his favourite movie come to life, I entered universal studios. Of course not before taking a cliché photo in front of the spinning globe that is Universal. My immediate excitement dwindled a little bit when I realized how commercial these places really are. I knew this going on but the number of shops and stores when you immediately enter the park is astounding, but hey they do want to make money.

Our first experience was in a sound stage mimicking a hurricane hitting a New York boathouse. This was super cool to see and hear, and experience.

This got me excited; I strolled past the Diner from Back to the future towards my expedition to Madagascar. Being rather inexperienced with children’s movies I was unsure what it would be like.  A very tame boat ride accompanied with jokes from the movie and some humour started out my day. Obviously this was a kid’s ride, but hey, I am just an overgrown child today and my excitement showed and I ran to the front of the line.

I had so much fun so I think I may have a lot to write about.

About this time I skipped into the Land of Far Far Away. We managed to experience a 4-D movie, where I was sneezed on by Donkey, had Dragon breath down the back of my neck, and chased a goon in an onion chariot. I felt 20 years younger this day, especially in this area of the park.

As we walked I noticed a sign, I jumped for joy and knew that 4:30 would bring tons of excitement, but I will get back to that, in the meantime I decided to go back hundreds of thousands of years and visit Jurassic Park (cue theme, which happened to be stuck in my head all day).  Here there was an ultra-lame 30 min wait for a shitty rollercoaster, the Jurassic flyer or something along those lines. We also partook in the River tour of the Prehistoric region. This was fun, it had warnings about getting wet, even soaked and they sold emergency survival kits.  Unfortunately nothing more than a few splashes got me, but this ride was still fun.

Time crunch on 4:30 was fast approaching, ahhhh! Or that’s what I was looking for. So found ourselves deep in the pyramids of Egypt, in a crazy maze, before we walked up a final set of stares and onto The Mummy, rollercoaster. This one was fun, half of it was in the dark, with random flashed of light, and heat, it involved backwards, and forwards movements.

Run! We don’t want to miss it; I sprinted towards what I had been waiting for since arriving at the park… WATERWORLD! We arrived easily 20 minutes early, but Singaporean time hasn’t affected me yet, so I still like to arrive early. As we sat down there were 3 sections, Dry, Wet and SOAKED. Naturally out of instinct I wanted to experience the show in full awesomeness and sat front row. Immediately I had one of the actors dump a bucket of water on me. Perfect! It was quite a warm day. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and took a picture with a few of the actors. The one on the right was the one who dumped a bucket of water on me.

I have never been a Battlestar Galactica fan, but after the 2 rollercoasters, I figure its worth a shot. I had a funny experience as we were sitting into the coaster as well. Apparently I was too tall to sit on the edges, so had to move to the middle. The human rollercoaster was fun, but still a little tame. The one in West Ed, was more exciting. However, the reputation was redeemed by the Cyclon Coaster. This was a coaster where your feet hang; you go inverted several times and also drop below the ground into a mist. I went on the coaster a couple times and enjoyed it most when I went at the very front, sticking my tongue out and putting the rock horns on for the camera. I didn’t buy any pictures though as its $18 for one picture, haha no thanks.

Lastly I bumped into Optimus Prime and he said that the New Transformers 3d rollercoaster thrill ride was awesome. So after flexing our biceps, I went and checked it out, twice, in a row. I can’t say too much about how awesome it is, other then you just have to go, twice. Once to enjoy the show, the second time to understand why it was so incredible to watch/partake in.

The day was starting to wrap up, plans for dinner were in the books, so I picked up my turkey leg and saved it for another time.
