Reflexing those muscles

My apologies for the tardiness in posts the last 2 days, I will try to make it up to you.

Saturday morning I had an appointment to get the 3rd twinrix injection. One more to go next year and I am all covered.  As you may recall my first experience, I passed out.  Since that point I have feared the same outcome. Before hand I made sure I had several glasses of water, a big hearty breakfast, and a snack.

I saw a different doctor this time. He sat me on the chair, I told him about my vasovagal and we chatted about nutrition. The doctor actually recommended I talk to the hospital and maybe work there haha. I have discovered that it is much easier just to tell people I am on holidays then have to explain and feel arrogant for talking about my current career choice. It’s no shame, but I dislike the stigma that surrounds modeling. Jab! All good. He sent me on my way, but I asked if I could just chill there for a bit, make sure I am 100%.

Following my jab (that’s what everyone calls it here. Kind of like toilet rather than restroom or bathroom or washroom), I stopped by the place next door. A foot reflexology place. I inquired about an appointment and was asked if I could come back in half an hour.

Upon my return an older woman greeted me, maybe late 60’s or even early 70’s. She spoke very limited English but came across very nice and polite.  What I didn’t know was the masochist hidden inside her.

After having your feet wiped clean, one is wrapped in a towel to keep warm. Using her fist like a hammer, my calves get pounded and well as the bottom of my feet. This wasn’t the painful part yet.

I am not an expert, but my understanding of reflexology is that certain points on your feet correspond to different parts of the body. Your Qi is the life force that keeps your body going, and that you body cannot heal without proper balance of Qi. The pain you feel in certain places is associated with the imbalance.

Each press of her knuckle made me squirm. She would press and look at me smile then press harder and watch me lose my mind in pain. With the limited English I didn’t tell her any of my history. During this session, she picked up on my plugged sinus from the cats, my knee, my lower back, and at the very end as she was working on my knee she pointed out my right shoulder an injury from years ago that still causes discomfort for me. This was actually her biggest concern and she said I need to do a full body massage to help it. We will see when I get busier and make more money.

Are you still upright?

As I mentioned, yesterday was a great day, I started to see some of the perks of being a model. The free hair cut, a few certificates and I also learned that clubbing is next to nothing for models (drinks, cover you name it is all covered for you). I woke up around 8 am had a quick Skype conversation with both Kelly and Brenna. I am a little homesick, so its nice to chat with friends back home. If anyone ever wants to Skype me feel free: wintonyk

After that I hit up the pool again. My body is starting to get a killer workout from swimming, I can feel it all throughout my shoulders, back, core and a little in my legs even. I am starting to get to the point of enjoying it. I have also tossed in some of the P90x exercise but in water. Man that is tough.

I strolled from there onto the Dawson Clinic for my appointment. Needle #2 of the twinrix. For those of you that have seen it, I didn't fair so well with the first. I had a Vaso-Vagal (essentially my body was like hey! What's up?!?! and decided to let me pass out). Excitement for the day right. Well this time I made sure I had eaten before going to the clinic. I had a couple buckwheat crisp crackers and some adams peanut butter. Then also an asian pear during my stroll. One last step was to pick up some Pocari Sweat, that shit is an awesome electrolyte drink, way better than gatorade. The Dr. I met with was great, we had a short conversation and I explained to him about my vasovagal in relation to low blood sugar. For the vaccine he asked me to lay on the bed and wait 5 min, then sit up wait a couple more then I was good to go. And... I WAS!!! No pass out. It's a good thing too, because I was at least 30 pounds heavier and 6 inches taller than everyone in the clinic.

Time for lunch, I rolled over to the place I tried duck yesterday and had roasted pork. It was great.

I made the entire trip without getting rained on. Well almost, the last 50m I got drenched. Apparently umbrellas don't do much good when you leave them at home. I had a great opportunity to chat with Mom, Dad and Ben on Skype when I got home too. Other than mom, this was the first time we had an opportunity to catch up.

I hit the gym for a couple hours after that, sorry I forgot to snap a pic. Just showered and now am off to see what I can score with that 100 bucks from yesterday and pick up some underwear.

TIP: You need more than 7 pairs of underwear in singapore. You sweat to much to stay comfortable in one a day.

Wait until the last minute

As promised earlier today I would include another post before I leave. I may try and shoot another one off from my phone tomorrow before my flight leaves.

Well its official in less than 24 hours I will be sailing far above the ocean at the height of everest. Conveniently enough my favourite show lately has been Evererst: Beyond the Limit. Completely reignited is my desire to climb higher. Check out the trailer for the show:

Back on task though. This has really been a common theme for me. I keep on procrastinating things. By now all copies are made, everything is packed, vaccination started, and now its just the waiting game ( thanks again to all those who helped).

My dad and I went out for breakfast this morning. Humpties. I couldn't help but notice the minimum 3 dollar charge sign. It reminded me of the restaurant across the street from Cheers (the apple barrel maybe?) 24 hours and full of drunks. This morning not necessarily full of drunks but there certainly were a fair share of interesting characters. I had a meat lovers skillet, honestly terrible. I guess thats what to expect.

In my ever going delay of things. I broke my 15 year snap on vaccinations today. I got the first dose of Twinrix. I have 2 more doses packed for my trip. This is actually where the day got interesting. After a 1 hour wait at the walk in, I paid the $30 vaccination fee and was ready to get my injection. The wonderful Nurse Anne, explained to me that following the injection  they would like you to sit for another 5-10 minutes to make sure you have no adverse reactions. I laughed about how that never happens to me and I have done tons of blood tests.

Interestingly enough, I was texting with a friend before my exam about low blood pressure, black outs and iron deficiency stuff. The next thing I knew I was in a half asleep almost dreaming. I felt like I was trying to pull my head out from underwater but someone/something was holding my head down. I Zach who never blacks out passed right out. Upon coming too from a tap on the knee from a nurse, I appeared as white as Opening day at Sunshine (conveniently that was today 24 runs open too). As soon as I came too I felt fine immediately but as precaution they gave me orange juice, checked my vitals and made me lie down. Turns out my bodies desire to go hypoglycaemic doesn't pair well with injections. My resting heart rate dropped to 30. After all this I joked around with all the nurses and had a fun time. Adrenaline added to the family health clinic.

It took me a total of 4 hours to pack today. But it's done. I just need to figure out how to pack my suit. Thank you mr. chow.

Might throw another quick one up for you guys later. Off to watch the flames game.
